What skills should hiring managers and boards look for in new leaders and staff to guide arts organizations into the future? Discuss new skills for current and new arts administrators to develop. Join university and local arts leaders to discuss what we need to develop to prepare ourselves for the future.

Ellen Chenoweth has been with the Dance Exchange since 2009 and is currently Managing Director. She has previously worked at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the American Dance Festival. She holds degrees from Rice and Texas Woman's University. Ellen oversees the curation of the Dance Exchange's Thursday evening series, HOME. She enjoys yoga, traveling, and supporting artists of all stripes.

Stephanie Evans Hanson

Stephanie Evans Hanson officially joined the staff of Americans for the Arts in January 2009 to support the Local Arts Advancement department as local arts agency services coordinator. In her current role, she is responsible for the development of individual leaders working to advance the arts at the local level. Her portfolio of work covers the full spectrum of arts leaders from students and emerging leaders to executive level and boards of directors. She designs and implements professional development, networking opportunities, and online resources for the field through webinars, in person sessions at the annual Americans for the Arts Convention, and a newly created program for emerging leaders called the Local Arts Classroom. She also shares resources, leadership best practices, and opportunities through regular listserv postings, blogs, and publications. In addition, Stephanie provides internal leadership development for Americans for the Arts interns.

Stephanie graduated from American University with an M.A. in arts management and holds a B.M. in music performance from Miami University of Ohio.

Laura Zucker is Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and Director of the Masters in Arts Management program at Claremont Graduate University. The Arts Commission provides leadership in cultural services of all disciplines for the largest county in the United States, encompassing 88 municipalities. The Arts Commission administers a $4.1 million grants program that funds more than 300 nonprofit arts organizations annually; provides leadership and staffing to support the regional blueprint to restore arts education to all 81 school districts in Los Angeles County, Arts for All; funds the largest arts internship program in the country in conjunction with the Getty Foundation; programs the John Anson Ford Theatres; and implements the county’s civic art program. The Arts Commission also produces free community programs, including the L.A. Holiday Celebration which emanates from the Music Center.
