Dionisio Rodriguez: A Tradition of Faux Bois

Saturday, June 9, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Tour 4

Explore a 100-year-old craft tradition in San Antonio we know as faux bois (French for "false wood") brought to us by Mexican-born artisan Dionicio Rodriguez (1819-1955). His unique sculptures and functional designs can be seen throughout our historic city activating traditional parks and bus stops into lasting creative destinations. Today, this artistic vernacular is being carried forward by master craftsman Carlos Cortés, a descendant of Don Dionicio. Carlos will lead a demonstration and share the craft on the grounds of his outdoor studio in the King William Cultural Arts District, following a site-seeing tour for a hands-on experience of the faux bois tradition that is authentic San Antonio.
